Why is writing an analysis plan important?

I always write an analysis plan before starting any analysis. This helps me:

1. Organize my thoughts and ideas in a single plan
2. Break down a high-level question into manageable parts
3. Have a clear approach that I can share with my stakeholders
4. Provide guidance for when to stop doing my analysis, or when to stop going deeper down a rabbit hole — we've all been there… trying to go one level deeper to understand why.
